Battlestate Games finally released Escape From Tarkov following nearly 10 years of pre-release access through multiple Alpha and Beta phases. Not only did the full release bring with it a new map and a full story campaign, it also brought new toys.

One of the key factors making this the best weapon in Escape From Tarkov 1.0 is how accessible and cheap it is. You can get your hands on an MXLR as soon as you unlock Jaeger Level 2, which you do by reaching level 15, getting 0.2 rep with him, and spending 560k Roubles at his shop.
Doing so will unlock new items to purchase, which includes the Marlin MXLR and its ammo. The weapon itself only costs around 45k Roubles while the good ammo is 550 Roubles per bullet, quite reasonable for how good it is.

- The MXLR is accessible really early on. As previously mentioned, you can start running it once you reach Jaeger level 2 which, for owners of the more expensive editions, requires only reaching level 15 and spending money at the trader.
- Jaeger level 2 also is the only requirement for unlocking the good ammo, .038 ME. This is a bullet with 80 DMG and 42 Penetration Power, a clean headshot kill to any helmet below level 5, and a clean two-tap to the chest against any armor level 4 or lower.
- This weapon does not require any modding to be effective. If you have the means, simply slap a scope on it and you get an extremely deadly long range gun for around 100k Roubles. Despite that, it can be modded to hell and back for even better results.
- Since it is considered a bolt-action rifle, you can use the MXLR to complete Shooter Born In Heaven, one of the toughest quests in Escape From Tarkov. Yet, unlike all other bolt-action rifles, you can shoot the MXLR quite fast, making it deadly even at close range.
- You do not need magazines to reload the MXLR, so you can legitimately run a setup in which you have nothing on you except the gun, bullets in your pockets, and meds. The evolution of the infamous "Mosin man".
As you can see, this is one of those rare moments in Tarkov in which a weapon does everything at once, while also requiring a minimal investment. This has happened previously, and in all those occasions it was eventually met with the nerf hammer.
